I started off 2017 with a blogging goals post but didn’t post again for about 4 months straight after that, which totally messed up my goals! I intend not to do that this year and I already have next weeks post complete so hopefully this is a step in the right direction! I will be trying to keep up with last years goals this year as well and constantly improve my blogging skills! You can read last years blogging goals post here.
Create a media kit – I have heard other bloggers talk about a media kit which they have handy to send to brands that includes their social media and blog stats. I think this is a great way to be organised and allows you to quickly send over your details if an opportunity arises, so I’d like to have my own prepared just incase! I don’t really know where to start but I think a quick Google will point me in the right direction, if you have any tips or experience with this please let me know!
Revamp my blog design – I am unsure about this one as I absolutely love how my blog looks at the moment thanks to my Pipdig layout but I think it might be time for a change. My blog looks very blog like and I kind of like the look of more of a website style if that makes any sense. I don’t think I will do this for at least a few months until I have decided on what style I want to go for.
Get a new blog logo – I have always wanted to have a graphic designer design me a blog logo but I’ve never got round to it. I just create my own and they don’t look as good as they could, so I think I might treat myself and my blog to a new logo this year. It might just give my blog a new lease of life and freshness that it needs!
Switch to WordPress – I have heard almost everyone talk about how they’ve switched from the Blogger platform to WordPress as it is apparently so much better. I have used blogger since I was 16 (now 23) so it the thought of moving to a different blogging platform terrifies me! I really want to do it though for all of the benefits that WordPress apparently have. I tried to switch over my blog myself a few months ago but got totally lost and frustrated when I couldn’t figure it out so I am so glad that I’ve found out that Pipdig have a service where they do the whole thing for you! It costs £175, but is currently on offer for £125, so I think once I’ve got over the post Christmas debt I will purchase this service and hopefully switch over to WordPress.
Improve my blog photography – This was one of my goals for last year and I think my photography has improved a little bit but I want to take it to the next level! I always think my blog photos look a bit naff and I want them to look a bit more professional but not too professional as I still want to keep that personal feel to my blog. I have asked my dad to make me a white wooden board for product photos and to act as a back drop so hopefully he’ll make that soon and I can start upping the quality of my photos.
Learn how to use my camera properly – This goal kind of goes in line with the goal above but I have had my camera for two years now and I absolutely love it. I just don’t know how to use it to the best of its ability. I want to use my camera on the manual setting so I can have more control on how my photos look but this requires reading up about it. Not that I have a problem with this I just keep forgetting to do it!
Post on Instagram more – This one is kind of a blogging goal as I use my Instagram as an extra for my blog. I have a love/hate relationship with Instagram these days like the majority of people do so it is difficult to get the motivation to use Instagram. I want to ensure that I post at the very least one photo a week on Instagram, as I keep unintentionally leaving it weeks between photos and it annoys me. I think I put too much pressure on myself to make my feed ‘perfect’ which restricts what I feel like I can post on there. I am going to try and be more relaxed with the types of photos I post and hopefully I’ll be able to post more frequently in 2018. I truly admire people who can post daily photos, you are all my inspiration and I don’t understand how you do it!
Create a university work/blog stuff balance – This one has always got to me, of course I am going to prioritise university work over blogging but I would like to ensure that I can make time for a little bit of blogging when I have a mountain of uni work to do. I’m not one of those people that study’s everyday (although I wish I had the motivation to do that) so I have no excuse to not do some blogging while I have spare time. I like to post a new blog post every Friday and my uni assignments are due in on a Wednesday afternoon so I think I’ll take a little bit of time on a Wednesday evening to have a break from work and do some blogging. I find blogging relaxing and fun to do so instead of chilling while watching Netflix I will hopefully spend my time creating blog posts and keeping up with my schedule.
They were all of my 2018 blogging goals, I really hope I manage to stick to them! I would love to hear what your blogging goals are for this year if you have any or any New Years resolutions you have, please link me to your posts or tweet me!
